I went to see what I guess I can call my “boss”, to get paperwork to fill out for my employment, and while explaining the forms I had to fill out, she implied my job isn’t a job so much as it’s sort of a financial aid kind of thing; she said something along the lines of “students who are looking for financial aid” when explaining why they prefer students who are on OSAP (the student-loan thing for Ontario students).
The notion of “financial aid” shouldn’t bother me since I do in fact have a student loan, but it’s not as though I asked for work around the college for extra money. I was approached for the job (in a way). Part of me wants to make the distinction that I’m not working for them because I need the money, but because I want the money. There is a huge difference between a want and a need.
I’m not in a situation where having this job greatly relieves my financial situation, but I felt that her assuming that me working for them mean that it did was a little presumptuous.
